Hate is Synonymous with Fear
Hate is synonymous with fear. Fear however is not necessarily synonymous with hate. If we replaced the word "fear" for "hate" in our everyday vocabulary, I think it could help us think about our anger differently. Let’s think about hate and fear: People “hate” going to the dentist. Do they hate the dentist or do they fear the dentist? People hate stubbing their toe, do they hate stubbing their toe or do they fear it? Many white people hate black people. Do they hate black people or do they fear them? Many black people hate white people. Do they hate white people or do they fear them? Many men hate women. Do they hate women or do they fear them? Many women hate men. Do they hate men or do they fear them? I’m going to go out on a limb here and tell you that I believe anytime you use the word “hate” in your vocabulary you could replace it with the word “fear.” So, how do we overcome our “fear?” We start taking responsibility and we start acknowledging that through our dialogue and through our actions we are all something to “fear.” People tend to be so incredibly busy with their “hate” they tend not to acknowledge that they have become something to “fear.”
